The first thing you should do if you are contemplating purchasing and installing a solar system is to have someone conduct an Energy Audit of your home. After that, the next step and probably most critical would be the Site Analysis. The Site Analysis is the most instrumental part of determining the benefits you will receive from installing a solar PV system. A properly done site analysis will determine the suitability of your site for PV installation and determine if there are any orientation, shading or other issues that will affect your system performance you may encounter. Nearby trees, buildings or other structures can have a detrimental effect on the output and performance or your system.

There are several means by which to conduct a site analysis. At EETN, we use a “Solar Pathfinder” to provide a visual representation of your desired site and, combined with sizing information obtained through a review of your electrical usage, can provide you with a detailed report describing your system efficiency and your expected power generation capabilities for a given array size. The report will be a very useful tool in determining how we need to proceed in your design and installation process.

A site analysis generally takes about an hour or so and costs $100.00 plus mileage. The cost will be deducted from the price of your PV system if you choose to purchase one within 60 days of the visit.
