Knoxville - Solar America City continues to expand green job skill set

4/27/2010

KNOXVILLE, TN, April 27, 2010:  Efficient Energy of Tennessee employees, Mike Butler / HERS Rater & Energy Efficiency Specialist and Jason Maclsaac / Solar Design & Installation Specialist, were notified on Earth Day April 22, 2010 that each had passed the NABCEP Solar PV installer test. NABCEP is the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP), a volunteer board of renewable energy stakeholder representatives that include members from the solar industry, NABCEP certificants, renewable energy organizations, state policymakers, educational institutions, and the trades.

The NABCEP test is a demanding four hour test that is the last step in a series of prequalification tests that include understanding of building codes, environmental engineering specifications, products, services, grants, safety requirements, and reducing energy loads. Nation Wide, as of September 2009, only 936 individuals had passed the NABCEP Solar PV Installer Certification exam.

Both Mike Butler and Jason MacIsaac have installed hundreds of kilowatts of solar for both residential and commercial solar applications. Their experience with complicated on and off grid applications requiring intelligent switching devices, batteries and generators uniquely prepared them for the four hour examination held in Raleigh North Carolina on March 13, 2010.

“I am very fortunate to have worked with Mike and Jason as this industry has evolved quite rapidly over the last couple of years. They both have come to the table, continuously expanding their knowledge and skills. Both of them are renaissance men of the solar industry. Jason MacIsaac is in the Army reserves, just finished a degree in accounting, a husband and father of two, and in addition just passed the NABCEP test.  The NABCEP exam is notorious for its failing 50% of the people that take the test. Mike is a former physics teacher, licensed contractor, husband and father of three, and somehow has managed to become an energy auditor, TVA certified energy auditor, HERS Rater and also passed this test after two years of experience in the solar industry. It makes me blurry eyed just thinking about it. I am not sure that there is anything that they cannot do,” said, Harvey Abouelata, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Efficient Energy of Tennessee.

Robbie Thomas, President of Efficient Energy of Tennessee commented, “One of the first lessons I learned in business is that success depends on assembling the best team possible, and Mike and Jason have certainly lived up to my expectations. Efficient Energy of Tennessee’s goals are to represent the State of Tennessee as a leader in renewable energy and energy reduction. The political climate, starting with the Governor and ending with our local government of Knoxville being nationally-selected as a Solar America City, has laid the ground work for all of us to be successful. We take this very seriously, and our goal is to continue to expand our skill sets, helping our customers be more competitive by lowering their energy needs and costs, and creating jobs in Tennessee.”

Efficient Energy of Tennessee is a full service Solar Installer. For solar installation their staff consists of a grant writer, solar designers, licensed experienced roofers, licensed electricians, and NABCEP certified PV Installers. “With our full complement of skills our company is prepared to meet the increasingly growing demands of the Solar Industry from residential to utility scale solar in the TVA region” said Abouelata.
